I would further add that there are certain types of people who are
detrimental to certain types of games.

Powergamers, IMO, are much like Dr. Cat's stamp collectors. They
don't interact much with other people in the game, and when they do,
it's so they can get something out of it. They will interact as
little as possible, because (bluntly speaking) every second you
spend waiting for a human being to respond to your action is a
second you could have spent taking some other action -- so
interacting with people just wastes time you could be using to gain
more power.

It is also worth noting that a disproportionate number of jerks are
powergamers. Powergamers are not *necessarily* jerks, and jerks are
not *necessarily* powergamers, but the correlation is far too
distinct to be ignored. I think this is just that the personality
type which lends itself most readily to being a jerk also lends
itself most readily to being a powergamer.
