YES.  And this is because there is a general assumption that a
role-playing environment is "rich enough" and in some way, superior,
to a typical game.

I do not expect all games to BE superb role-playing games.  But to
retain that gaming richness, that depth of content, they need to be
capable of being role-played in.

The only problem is, of course, that for role-players, other players
are considered content and thus the gaming richness is impacted by
the maturity of the community.

Therefore, the community is critical in being cultivated first, or
you will have the "Why are you talking with a funny accent?" 
questions that Michelle alluded to earlier.
