[MUD-Dev] Crunch time

Ok, just a general observation on crunch time. It seems that crunch
time is natural on a lot of projects, human nature is to suddenly
panic when deadlines approach and to realize all the things you need
to get done, this is good, it makes you work harder, it gets more
done coming towards deadlines etc, you end up getting your 16 hour
days of good work from everyone.
When it all seems to go wrong is when this time is factored into the
project schedule, when people bank on this extra time. Your schedule
should assume that 8 to 5 work would get the job done, when it
inevitably doesn't then you can use crunch time to make up for all
the slippage that has occured, if on the other hand your project
schedule relies on getting a crunch period out of your workers, then
they cannot squeeze more hours of work into the day to make up for
slippage, and that is I believe a recipe for disaster.
