And to be honest, I personally think think it depends on the level
of social interaction said 'friend' had. "Miss Norway" wasn't just
anyone - she was well known and respected in LegendMUD (or so I am
led to beleive). As such, she was a key figure in the MUD's
"community" - and that is what MUD's are about. The community.

People play MUDs for the interaction with other players, be that for
socialising, competing against, or otherwise - the other players are
what define a MUD from simply 'a game played online'. Now if a
person important to the community died - then shouldn't the emphasis
be on the importance of the memorial to the community? I bet you
pounds to peanuts that the benefit of strengthening the community
from said memorial is much more beneficial to the game than any
percieved (or actual) departure from game fiction it may cause.

To be frank - if the player doesn't want to see the memorial, they
can simply avoid it. It is not forced upon them
