That's something that requires some evangelism, then, because
installing a new JDK is _much_ more likely to break your existing IE
installation than is installing Firebird (which means "unpack the
zip file and run", since there's no registry-altering installer
required).  And if you don't like it, best of luck cleanly removing
that JDK!

You could even package up Firebird with a custom (MUD-specific)
start page, given a few hours of work, and they'd never have to know
it was a new browser at all.
