[MUD-Dev] New combat system

Beware I am new to MUDs and MMOG and the following ideas are in
early stages of though. Note each point is a separate idea although
some could be combined.

  - Totally non-leveling character system. That is repeating an
action != improved character stats. (Shattered Worlds does not
have character levels but the skills are improved through constant
use. This is still a leveling system. However, I think this is
better then experience levels.) What you do and how you do it
should be more important then how often you do something
(eg. defeating hordes of mobs). Hope that makes sense.

  - Improvement of character can be achieved through non-combat
means. For example, an explorer could find items that can improve
character stats. Players with some money can improve there
  character by purchasing these items.

  - Non physical means of combat. For example, a battle card
game. Winning a battle means acquiring the cards played in the
match. Or maybe robot wars (where the robots follow the 3 laws of
robotics). If your robot gets destroyed you can get the parts that
are not permentally damaged and go to a workshop to build another
  robot.

  - Brains over brawn. Knowledge of combat is the key to
winning. The range of combat commands (including spells) is
expanded through completing quests etc. But the focus is on how
  the combat commands are used.

  - Hiring of mercenaries. For those players that do not want to
participate in combat directly, they can hire players or npcs to
fight for them, collect items for them, etc.

  - Player rankings. Winning combat (eg. killing the opponent)
improves your combat ranking. Whereas losing combat lowers
ranking. Hopefully this would keep experienced players on there
  toes.

  - More focus on player skills then character skills. For example,
improvement of character stats is done through minigames. These
games could include concentration (spell learning), puzzles
(problem solving), riddles (wisdom), Chess (combat skills), etc.
