Well, there go all your solo players.

In MUD1, we had a system whereby players could give XP to one
another, with the following caveats:

  1) Points could only be given from higher-points characters to
  lower-points characters. If someone's XP total was higher than
  yours, you couldn't give them any points.

  2) The points the player gained were 2/3 (I think) what you paid.
  If you paid 60, they got 40.

It worrked reasonably well, although of course MUD1 also had PD and
a winning condition (reaching wiz level). Its points only went up to
102,400 as well, rather than the millions we see now.
