I'll second both of those. I've used everything that's been mentioned
so far except FUDforum, and Invision has been the most consistently
great one with great support and a large community of people making
add-ons. SMF has been very good sometimes, mediocre others (mainly on
the supoport side IIRC), and GossamerThreads has been great but very
expensive.
"support" probably doesn't matter to most people - an example is when
I needed to do some LDAP integration with the system's user database,
the Invision people were helpful whereas most others just shrugged and
said they didn't know but thought it might be possible. Maybe.
I now typically look at the current state of SMF and Invision and
choose between those two when looking for a board.
