I don't really understand this concern. If you wanted a FTP-based
filesystem (there -is- an ssh based one as I recall) you'd need to
compile a kernel module too. WebDAV is just HTTP, right? It has no need
for kernel modules. Filesystems do.
The 'cadaver' client, which Dworkin has already mentioned, is what you
should compare FTP against.
