I really enjoy the Xanth series of books and one of my off-and-on
projects is developing a paper RPG using the magic system (for those
unfamiliar each person has only one magic talent, the more generally
useful the talent, the closer to magician level they come ie. making a
red spot appear on the wall is run of the mill whereas reanimating the
dead is a sorceror class talent). I toyed with implementing the idea in
my current mud, however, the problem occurs when a player devises an
entirely new use for their talent and then cannot implement it! (ie from
Yon Ill Wind, Chlorine poisons things, however, can cleanse water by
killing everything in it thereby purifying it). If someone could devise
a way to successfully implement this system, I believe it would be
extremely enjoyable to play.
