Announcing the Portable Space Engine, Beta version 0.8.3!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW

The Portable Space Engine is a hard-coded add-on for MUX and MUSH servers.
It has been designed to be portable to other servers as well, so if
you're running PennMUSH or some other server, you should be able to get it
up and running without too much effort.

The Engine is a "game-within-a-game", allowing one to run a space
simulation within their MU*. It is a complete system, allowing you to get
up and running with a couple hours with the sample objects provided on
the Test and Support MUX (hyper.org 9999). The engine is also
programmable through softcode, making it extremely flexible and
customizable. The "Space Designer's Guide" is included with the source
code distribution and can also be viewed online at
http://hyper.org/space/docs.

FEATURES

- Portable to different MU* servers, and different game themes. - Visual
interface is mainly defined in softcode, so you can completely
  customize your consoles.
- Softcode event system, to allow the space designer to easily create
  automated objects.
- Support for any type of object. Build asteroids, space beasts, cargo
  containers.
- Hard code support for tractor beams, lasers/phasers, torpedos,
explosions,
transporters, ships, starbases, planets, and much more.

REQUIREMENTS

- The engine is supported on TinyMUX v1.4p5 and TinyMUSH 2.2.3. It should

also work on earlier and later releases, though you might need to
install
parts of the patch by hand.

GETTING STARTED

- Go to http://hyper.org/space and download the space distribution.. -
Read the INSTALL file for installation details.
- Log into the Portable Space Engine Test and Support MUX at hyper.org
port
9999 for sample code, and to see the engine in action.
- The HTML documentation under docs/ and the sample code should provide
enough information for you to begin developing your space system!

FUTURE PLANS

- The version numbering system is similar to the one used with Linux and
MUX.
The 0.8.x series will be reserved for bug fixes, fine-tuning, and the
addition of spacecalls and events that are based on existing systems (to

give you added flexibility in softcode). The 0.9.x series which will
run
in parallel with 0.8.x will contain new features, and will be geared for

  the more daring space designer!

Please feel free to e-mail me at space at hyper.org if you have any comments,
questions, or suggestions.
