The second solution. There are some people that deliberately stated
flat out that they didn't believe in secrecy and all that, and set out
first to diffuse recipes they found out, and then started to reverse
engineer what the "sequences" of tapers were (i.e. how you deduce the
tapers in higher level spells from the lower level ones).
