That would be a fascinating study.
I noticed differential reactions to my character on AC1, for
example. My character was a classic sword gimp, got her up to to
level 40 without any magic but item (armor & weapon buffs, but
mainly useful for transportation (portalling around)). Other women
almost never asked about stats; when grouping up for a quest or
something, I could say "sword gimp, hits things hard and runs away
very fast", no problem. Many male players were quite perplexed
about this. "What, you didn't spec life magic? You're gimped, you
need to reroll!" "But I have fun playing this character." "But,
but, it's *gimped*!" "But I *like* it." "But..."
Sometimes they'd try justification: "But you'd never survive in
PvP!" "I don't play PvP in this game. I want that, I fire up
Unreal Tournament." "But..."
Sigh.
