I've come across a few MUDs written in Scheme, at least (though, it
might be worth noting that the `functional-ness' of Scheme is
somewhat debatable); there's a list of them on this page on the
TUNES web-site:

I haven't seen anything that I'd call a `pure-functional MUD', yet,
though I've been thinking lately that FP might actually fit MUDs
quite well. Maybe I'll develop that thought to the point where it's
actually useful after I get some more time and inspiration....

I -have- seen some references to LogiMOO (though I haven't yet read
much detail about it), which is based on an extended Prolog, and
`logic-programming' seems to be closer to functional programming
than to anything else.... Maybe someone who's more well-read than I
can comment on that.
