Probably everyone involved with Blizzard is aware of how frequently
and catastrophically the biggest games company in the world has
messed up MMOG's, yet Blizzard has had only one disaster and has
been plain sailing ever since with hundreds of thousands of players
online at once.

And so "let's evolve what we know and what we have that we know
works" is triumphing over "hey! it's obvious! We should do it in
THAT way instead!".

Publishers like even less to write off tens of millions of dollars
because they tried to innovate, risked a lot, and then jumped in
what turned out to be the wrong direction.
